Brake Caliper Rubbing on Rim
I have a 2000 neon and just changed the pads and rotors on the front. I noticed when I put the wheel on (driver side) it was rubbing on the brake caliper. It was rubbing so bad i had to put washers on the studs so I could keep it from rubbing so i could get to work. The pads on the driver side were worn a lot more than the passenger side.
Would I just need to replace the driver side caliper? Is a bad caliper whats causing the rim to rub on it? They are the original rims. |

Re: Brake Caliper Rubbing on Rim
you sure both rotors looked the same? and look at part numer see if there the same they could have been boxed wrong? if your using same rims that you took off it should not rub and you never replaced calipers it should be normal unless the one rim is for drum brakes and not rotors that will cause that. those warhers you put on there that's not safe at all. so i'd same rim or the new rotors are your problem.

Re: Brake Caliper Rubbing on Rim
If the inside of the wheel rubs the caliper, I would be checking to see if the wheel bearing was loose (with that wheel jacked up off the ground it would wiggle) or if the hub nut was not tightened (with the same result).
Other things that can make the caliper rub on the drum is if the caliper doesnt get its two bolts tightened back down. I have had cars where the threads on those mounting bolts were rusted - and it was hard to run the bolts down snug, until I cleaned the threads out with a tap. The pads will wear faster if there is a bad wheel bearing, or the hub nut isnt tightened. |
