Re: 1983 accord very high idle
i have nearly the same exact problem especially when its cold outside ... exept mine idles normal after the motor has warmed up.. I am not certain but i have a feeling that it has something to do with the autochoke... also it may make a difference but the year of mine is 89... so maybe i have given you a direction.

Re: 1983 accord very high idle
When carb accord starts it will always have a high RPM (for warm up). It will do it until engine is little bit warm. Then you press a gas butterfly opens and it jump to a normal 900rpm (750rpm in gear). So probably this mechanism is broken on your carb. Don't know much about older 1-2 gen accords.
