Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Does anyone know if this is any different than the SNJ buffing powders?

Can you explain a little further? I had a smooth, gloss black enamel base on some wheels and the finish still appeared too dark after rubbing out.

They both are applied in the same way, but, SJN was designed to be applied over metallic paints like silver and the Kossute over gloss black paint base.

If anyone does find it anywhere please share with us. I want to get some myself. Results look convincing.

The items I used were on a '58 Impala I built last year. The finish was decent but it didn't look as good as those spoons did.

That stuff looks great! I like that you can do "black" chrome with it too (or, I guess, will be doing it until you master it) because that's an effect I've been wanting to do for a while but couldn't figure out a convincing way. If anyone does find it, please let us know!
Thanks for the video link, too, that explained it really well. It's interesting how much a better understanding you get when you see it, even if you read a good description. Those modeling videos are great - I wish they were translated! I'm really curious about the painting effects he did later, around 8m; why was he holding his finger over his airbrush's tip and spraying bubbles into the cup??

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
One thing I don't like about Alclad chrome is that its not the same reflectivity at all angles. It looks great at wide angles to the light source then darkens as your eye moves in-line with the light.
In the spoon photos the Alclad II looks more reflective (though not as smooth) than the Gin San which worries me a bit. Notice the light source is always in the same location in all the photo's. I have a habit when photographing chrome. I subconsciously move around until I get maximum reflectivity. I bet if new pics are taken at a narrower angle relative to the light source the Gin San will look much darker than the AlClad.

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
I believe after adding thinner to the paint, spraying bubbles mixes them in the cup, a technique I picked up from the videos I use frequently. Saves time and means I don't need to waste paint or wash up any external mixing cups.

I wonder how long they've been out of stock with it. Usually HW doesn't really keep many items in stock anyway. Anyone know any additional sources or at least similar products? |
