2001 Sante Fe Heavy on Gas

Hi all,

I have never previously been responsible for having my car serviced so this is a learning curve, sorry in advance for all the questions.

My Sante Fe 2001 has 197,000+ miles and is due for a service. She is all of a sudden is heavy on gas so I know its time for a service.

What all should I ask for ?

I know the spark plugs are probably due to be changed. I have had the experience in the past they always tell you something is needed while it really is not and I want to at least be able to make an informed decision.

Thanks

Ronel

With 197k miles, I hope it's had some maintenance done in the past.

Your owners manual will tell you the maintenance schedule and what needs to be done, but I'd change the plugs, timing belt, coolant, transmission fluid (probably be a good idea to have it flushed, depending when it was done last), pcv valve, rear diff fluid (if it's AWD), and have a good fuel induction cleaning done, not just the pour in the tank stuff.

Re: 2001 Sante Fe Heavy on Gas

Hi there

Thank you for the reply - yes all the oil changes and services were done mostly through the dealership but now its like ohhh 200,000 coming up we need to do..... and its a LONG and pricey list that they want to do - since the check engine light is not on - I figure half of the list is probably not necessary but i don't know enough about the car to argue

At that mileage I'm sure the list is long. What's on it?

Re: 2001 Sante Fe Heavy on Gas

lets see something about buschels ???

fuel filter

Timming belt (and another belt can't remember the name)

some of the hoses need to be replaced and i can live with that

sparkplugs - i checked back and it was replaced about 90,000 miles ago so yes i agree its due

Sparkplug leads (since they are doing the sparkplugs the leads are common sense i guess)

oil change ? yep its due
air filter (yep always with oil change)

and that's all i can remember right now as the list is home. I am doing preventative maintenance here and I am pretty sure all that is not needed now - I have scheduled another 2 checks with other companies to get a better sense of what is necessary.
