Door pin replacement

Hi:
I would like to change the door pins and bushings on my 2006 gmc sierra. I was wnodering if I would cause any damage if I used my air chisel to get the old ones off. I was also thinking about a sawsall, or grinder if it fits in there. This truck has a nut and bolt type replacement pin system and the original ones are similiar but I think they look rivited or something to that effect. Getting them off is going to be the hardest part. Good thing I only have to do the drivers door

Thx for the info but my pins are different. They are about an inch and a half and have a the bottom of the pin has a nut to hold it. There are 1 pin for the top and pin for the bottom of the hinge. A total of four per door.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your post, but I had broke a finger on my Right hand. YES.... my index one too!!!!

I guees that means I won't be doing the door pins any time soon.

I really do not see much on door pin replacement even on the internet. I bookmarked the vid for future use anyway. Great stuff!!!

On numerous occasions I had to drill the bushing holes on a pile of these vehicles and go with oversized pins and bushings, hope yours is not to bad yet as this is a PITA because of the four pins, I guess the two pin idea was to good to keep using

Thanks for adding that info Hired Goon. I know that they are not worn into the bracket yet. I still need sime time to heal my broken hand. I will keep an eye on them and if need be I will be forced to take it to my local body shop to have it done.

Thanks for all the info! I had to replace mine last year (1997 Sierra) and they are a pain to get back in. Would have been easier if it was a straight line shot to hammer them back in.

If I had access to a machine shop I would have made custom C clamps to press them in instead of drilling like "Hired Goon" did...
