I'm going to change my transmission filter and put in new fluid. Any opinions on whether or not to use the Valvoline MaxLife? Here is the product page for the MaxLife, if anyone is curious. I already bought the fluid, but can return if I need to. Thanks!

Re: Valvoline MaxLife DEX/MERC ATF - 2000 LeSabre
I may be really picky but I only use OEM ATF from the dealer. In my opinion, the OE fluid is the best choice for the 4t65e. I've used a few different brands and I really seem to get the best performance out of the GM brand. Some of the others seem to turn dark after a very short time. OE fluid remains pink and healthy looking for thousands of miles.
If you've never done the job before I reccomend getting an "internal puller" set with a slide hammer to get the filter seal out. Picking at it with a screw driver or other implement can really shred up the bore in the case. |

A lot of what we use when doing trans fluid and filter changes is Valvoline trans fluid... Its marketed( Bottled ) under the suppliers brand, but it Valvoline in sheeps skin... We have had no issues with Valvoline and continue to use it.. I'd say go for it... If you don't, you will be fine using a good quality Dexron III or using the Dexron 6... Your chioce really.. |
