Question Transmission Problem on 99 venture (code p0742)

I recently bought a 99 chevy venture. It ran fine untill a few weeks ago the gear changes felt a little hard. A few days later, I start up the car, and it shows check engine light, which gave a p0742 code (torque converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On)

But most of all, the car won't move. I put it in drive, does move, reverse is the same. The gears just don't seem to engage.

Is there any hope for fixing it? Will I need a new tranny? because i'm honestly tired of spending 1500 bucks on a rebuilt one. I wann fix this my self.

I did a few google searches and it seems that the torque converter can get stuck for many reasons. Will replacing the torque converter fix the problem?

Could be the TCC solenoid is stuck on. There is some info on the 'net as to unplugging it and going without overdrive. If that (unplugging the TCC) works then you would know what to expect.

ok i'll look into that. Also I forgot to mention (I just found out yesterday) that when I start up the car, and it doesnt move in drive or reverse, the I can turn it off and start it back up and it moves a bit before the accelerator becomes unresponsive.

Accellerator becomes unresponsive? Like the engine wont rev?

That's a little different. Have you checked the fluid level? It's probably low due to a leak?

These transmissions dont leak.... :-) HA, yeah, keep that thing topped off, might also have a bad front pump also. Have you tried some transX or sumtin like that?

Check that the shift cable is firmly attached by looking behind and below your intake on driver's side where you see the top of the transmission shift lever. My '97s (195k) broke as I backed up in a narrow parking lot where cars were coming in both directions. Could not shift it into any gear. Had to shut it of and have it pushed forward while in Reverse and then towed to the repair shop. Luckily it was only that, but they said something about a sensor acting the same way.

Yeah, the TransX is an additive that is a Stopleak/Sealconditioner/Cleaner that has improved condition on many transmissions for me.
