Exclamation 96 S10 Ignition/Starting Issue

I have a 1996 S10 with 187,000 miles on it. I have been experiencing lately an issue and not sure what might be the cause.

When I turn my key to the "run" position (before starting) is where the issue takes place. Normally when I turn the key to this position I get all gauge functions including the gauge indicator lights coming on. I then can start the truck.

Lately when I put the key in the run position there are no gauge functions or lights and the truck will crank but will not fire. This is an intermittent problem and I am wondering if there is a relay that is going bad or something else going on. The following items were replaced recently for one reason or another.

Timing chain, timing tensioner, #1 injector, all 4 intake valves, ignition coils, plugs, wires....

Check ign switch and all power feeds and fuses.

Does sound like a bad switch. Try doing a search in this forum for ignition switch for details on which wires to check for power.

Hello. I have a '95 2.2L S10 that is exhibiting exactly the same symptoms as yours. Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Thanks

That was the only time the guy came to the forum. Has not been back after that. Most of the time it is the ignition switch.

Re: 96 S10 Ignition/Starting Issue

Thanks for your post. I have done a bunch of googling and have decided that the switch is indeed the culprit. At least I hope so as I have just ordered one. I will post what I find so others will know. Cheers!
