'04 Comp G Transmission Question

Very uncommon for the differential to go out on a 4T65E-HD autotransaxle. My question to you is why was the trans replaced if it was just an issue with the differential? ![]()

Ignorance of the subject really.
I'm a computer techie, outdoor enthusiast, firefighter/emt, etc. I don't know 'alot' about cars. I'd like to think I'm fairly mechanically inclined, I can 'figure' out most things. I've changed brakes, rotors, hub assemblies, alternators.. I've replaced the fly wheel in a Geo Metro.. (Twice actually, I put it in backwards the first time..) and this weekend my little brother and I pulled apart the top half of the motor in my GTP trying to find a coolant leak. But, when AAMCO said it was going to cost me almost as much to replace the differential as to put in a rebuilt trans, I opted for the rebuilt trans. Whether they were full of BS, I won't know until you reply. But that's water under the bridge now, that happened almost two years and 60k miles ago. But, since I'm coming up on that 80k mark again, I thought I would ask, it's been looming the back of my head every time I 'gently accelerate into a left turn from a stop sign at the end of an off ramp'. (Which really ticked me off, I was a mile from home when it broke.)...v PS, thanks for moving my post; sorry about that. |

its not really "normal" per say, but I've seen it happen. the 4T65E is not a very strong transmission. If you drove it fairly hard i could see it happening.
btw: wasnt your car covered under the GM 10 year 100K drive train warranty?

Negative.. In fact, I took it into the dealership at about 36k for an alignment and because it was slipping, they had to elongate? something in order to get the vehicle back into alignment and then the steering wheel was off center. They said that they could not find anything wrong with the trans, and to bring it back if it started doing it again.
At 42k I took it back in and they charged me $450 bucks to change the fluid and the filter, because it was out of warranty. It worked okay for another 20k, then started getting worse and worse, mainly when it was cold, when it warmed up it seemed to shift fine. Then, at 80k it left me stranded. ...v |

sounds EXACTLY like my gf's G6. Its a 2008 with 25K on it now. The car sometimes shifts really hard when its cold, and other times it will slip into gear really bad. Had them look at it a number of times and they keep saying there's nothing wrong with it. Oh well, hers is covered under the 10 year 100K drive train warranty. I just have a feeling when and if it does go...they will bring up some lame excuse like it was due to "extreme driving conditions" I've heard that one before
![]() Sorry to hear about your car though. I've been keeping my eye out for a nice Comp G black in color. holy sh!t, i cant believe they charged you $450 for a flush! thats a total DIY job. just a bunch of 10mm bolts to remove the pan. They most likely did a "full flush" though. but still...wow!

When did you take initial delivery? The bumper to bumper was 3 years or 36K miles. The powertrain coverage at least up to 2008 models is 5 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first. Check the Limited Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet to be sure.
And that includes the differential (Drive System) and all lubricated internal transaxle components but not limited to this. Periodic maintenance fluids is at owners expense.
