99 Dodge Ram 5.9L new ALT not charging
Hello everyone! I have a 99 Dodge Ram pickup 1/2 ton 5.9L gas engine and we installed 2 new alternator and it is not holding charge. We have the voltage meter hooked up and it reads between 11-12amps while running. So yes it not staying at 14 like i should. I looked around online and some forums was reccomending a bad Voltage Regulator and i called autozone and they said that the VR isnt availble and it might be on the alternator already. Does anyone know what is wrong and why it isnt charging at 14amps?

Re: 99 Dodge Ram 5.9L new ALT not charging
the voltage regulator is in the pcm, but i would check all the grounds first. did they test the reman alt before you took it out of the store?

Re: 99 Dodge Ram 5.9L new ALT not charging
ground
big fuse in power distribution box the connector which powers the field coil-- if there is a short there/loose wire, your alternator will spin all day long and not put out any power. check that b4 u even think about replacing the pcm |
