97 GTP stumbling, missing at low acceleration
This problem has been steadily getting worse. I can feel a slight miss at idle. But the main problem is that at low acceleration it starts to miss and stumble. But when i give it more gas it smooths out. I've changed the plugs and wires, fuel filter, and checked all the coils. When it does this it seems to be when the supercharger is coming on. If I accelerate really slow. When it shows no bars for the supercharger then it doesn't do this.
I don't know if the charger is coming on to soon and creating a lean misfire. If it does it enough then it sets a lean sensor bank 1 code. Is there something that controls when the charger engages. Because it seems like it is coming on too soon and that's why i'm getting the miss. Please help!! |

Re: 97 GTP stumbling, missing at low acceleration
How many miles are on your GTP? Are you stock or have a CAI or FWI installed? Checkout the MAF sensor. Try cleaning it with electrical contact cleaner. A flaky MAF sensor can cause missing idle and misfire or cutout during low/moderate or full acceleration. It is located on the top of the throttle body.

Re: 97 GTP stumbling, missing at low acceleration
Everything is stock. I have 220 K miles on it. Thanks for the advise I'll try clean the MAF.

Re: 97 GTP stumbling, missing at low acceleration
I can't remember what brand. Autolite or something. I can't remember. I also have a pretty good exhaust leak too. At the flange. Since it is before an o2 sensor could that be a reason for all of this. Becuase it seams like since the leak has been getting worse the miss has been getting worse also.

Re: 97 GTP stumbling, missing at low acceleration
I know this is an old post, but I had the same problem and found it to be the catalytic convertor was plugged up.
I used a bore-scope and drilled a hole in the inlet pipe of the cat convertor. I looked inside and the honeycomb is almost totally plugged. |
