How much did it cost you to fix this problem?

Re: missing when accelerating

Did you have the CHECK light come on ever?

I have similar symptoms, but no CHECK light.
Taking in for tune-up, at 75K what else should
I have them do (local shop, not gready dealer).

Thats not too bad, I just took it to the dealer this morning and yes they did tell me the problem is the catalytic converter, and it would cost about $800+ to get it fixed. I may have to look around at a local muffler shop to get a quote. I'm even considering doing it myself, from what I've read its not too hard about the only problem would be removing the bolts. Midas quoted me $400

Hey! looks like you are from San Antonio also, mine isn't giving me any Check engine lights, i've already doing a tune-up on mine (plugs, wires, fuel filter, fuel injector cleaning, transmission flush) and none of this took care of the problem. The dealership told me its the catalytic converter.

Yeppers, NW SA, marshall HS area - figured Id do the tune-up anyway, as nothing's been done in all those 75K save the LOF and a new battery. What plugs do people use nowdays? Platinum something someone said.. ?? Im going to have 'em replace coil packs, as that seems to be an iffy for some. Clean MAF and replace EGR also I guess. Anything else?

Cool NW side also, Medical center area.

According to Autozone this car requires Iridium plugs, they were about $5 each i think. I just bought an EGR valve also, it was about $59 at autozone, don't forget to replace your fuel filter might be a good time. I took the car to Freedom Chevy UTSA bvld and I10 and yup just as i expected it is the catalytic converter, what they did to test it was remove the O2 sensor ran the car (ran perfectly fine) then plugged it back in and the same problem occurred, which lead them to find out that the CAT needs to be replaced. unfortunately something like that costs about $800 at the dealer. Hopefully thats not the problem, if you do have the check engine light just take it to autozone, they are really nice at the babcock and huebner location.

Let me know how it goes.

Re: missing when accelerating

i had no check engine light on during my problem. would come on when i unplugged egr valve.have a scanner would turn light back off after plugging egr back up.the cat. on my car was pretty long mabey 30 inches long there abouts.but most of the length was eghaust pipe.the auctual cat.is only about 15 inches or less.the muffler shop just cut the cat out and wire welded the new one in.they have universal cats.that work just fine and cost a lot less 119.00 dollars total for everything.my car still runs like a new one.i would call around and find a muffler shop that carries the universal cats.good luck
