95 accord crankshaft bolt

I want to change the timing belt on my 95 honda accord lx 2.2L
The manual says that normal engine rotation is counter-clockwise. To loosen the crankshaft bolt, is it a left hand or right hand thread. (Which way do I trun the bolt to loosen it? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?)
Thanks

Re: 95 accord crankshaft bolt

It is a regular thread. You will be standing at the passenger side of the vehicle, facing it. Turn the bolt counterclockwise to unscrew. When putting it back make sure to torque it to 181 foot per pound. And I hope you have a special tool to stop engine form rotating? Makes your life much easier.

Good luck,

Sam

Sam,
Thanks for the info however, the timing belt as well as all of the pulleys are on the driver's side of the vehicle, if that makes a difference.
Thanks again

Re: 95 accord crankshaft bolt

OK, I got the tool from summit racing, an otc-4731 50mm crankshaft pulley holding tool. I installed the tool using a breaker bar, cheater and the ground to hold the tool in place. I then used another breaker bar, cheater bar and turned the bolt counter-clockwise and the tool broke right where the square hole is. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks again.

Re: 95 accord crankshaft bolt

I also broke a breaker bar once. But it was a cheap one from Great Neck. My Craftsman 1/2 inch ratchet and 3 foot pipe usually do the job.

Try to take your car to a nearest mechanic. He can do it with air tool in an instant. I do not think he will charge you much. Then put everything back and slowly drive home. That is the best thing I can think of.

Good luck,

Sam
