89 Century-transmission band adjustment

I have an 89 Buick Century with about 114k and an automatic trans.
Is it possible to adjust the clutch bands? Haynes does not say anything about this.

Re: 89 Century-transmission band adjustment

I'm pretty sure that GM never used adjustable bands in any of their automatic transmissions.

Externally-adjustable bands were used in some old RWD 3-speed Ford and Chrysler transmissions, but never GM.

What problems are you having with your car?

I posted my original text of my problem in the link above on this site on 11-1-09. Basically, I have a short loss of power with a hard kick afterward. Also sometimes when I stop at a light, the check engine light comes on and the error code is fuel mixture too rich. I have already changed the oxygen sensor and the fuel filter. My thoughts have been it could be electrical (coils or ignition module), transmission related or fuel related. A friend told me to start with the throttle position sensor. I am hesitant to replace things without a clue because the car is not worth much.
