2000 Jimmy SLE 4X4Front end noise

There is a loud hum coming from the front end. It sounds like something is rubbing against the tires. When I accelerate and then take my foot off of the gas pedal, the Jimmy slows quickly. Usually, the Jimmy would coast and then slow down. This started after I had an oil change. The tires were checked. I am not sure if the tires were low. I just thought that they put air in the tires and that is the reason for all of the noise. But I don't think that is the problem. The Jimmy has always had a "rough" ride. Everybody tells me, "It's a truck, it's going to ride rough." I disagree. The ball joints were fixed 3 three years ago. Also, it seems to me that the Jimmy isn't as high as it used to be. Maybe I have shrunk?

When engaged in 4x4, there is a clicking sound coming from the front driver's side along with the loud hum. Sometimes, the 4X4 has trouble disengaging. That was "fixed" 3 years ago also.

Does noise increase with MPH?
What speed does it make noise or more noise?
Check front wheel bearings for looseness or roughness.

When going straight down road 35-45 MPH turn the steering a little right or left and see if noise changes.
If so you have a bad front wheel bearing.

The noise does get louder the more RPMs. I will try turning the wheel to see if the noise stops or changes and let you know. I would not know what I am looking for in regard to the wheel bearings.

Wheel bearing noise increases with MPH not RPM.
If you do not know what to look for best find a repair shop that does.
Let us know howit goes.

When I was going 30 MPH, I turned the steering wheel to the right and the noise lessened. Then I turned the steering wheel to the left and the noise got louder.

When one wheel bearing is fixed, does the other one need to be fixed as well? (like breaks and ball joints?)

You have a bad wheel bearing.
You will have to check for the bad side.
Check for looseness and listen and feel for roughness with front and rear end both end off ground and also feel around wheel bearing area.
Sometimes a long steel bar /pipe helps on hearing test.
When replacing it always check other stuff for wear.

Yes at 125K the other bearing does not usually last much longer.
But both at one time is double expense.
But saves later repair.
