1996 ram 5.9 dies after a few miles

Hey guys and gals,
1996 ram 5.9 magnum, approx. 80k miles
-this truck at one time had ignition lockout from a dealer-

My friends ram dies after driving for a few miles. He replaced the fuel pump and cam sensor. He was getting a code for no timing signal and cam sensor failure however he was told that his truck does not have a cam sensor or that it is not serviceable. I am starting to think he may be having problems with the coil and once it gets hot it fails. He is in another city with the truck stranded on the side of the road.

Any thoughts on this would be great.. Thanks

Check for spark through the plug wires. Determine for sure if it's an ignition problem or a fuel delivery problem. If you determine for sure it's an ignition problem and it absolutely won't start, you can probably have the various ignition components tested.
