1997 Radiator Fan Switch, which one to get cheap?

Hey,
While in stopped traffic my Gen 5 1997 Camry (4cyl) temperature gauge increases. When I disconnect the wire harness to the radiator fan switch both fans come on. So I assume fan switch is busted.

My question: I see a lot of difference for the same part in $$ on for example RockAuto.com . I am looking at BECK/ARNLEY Part # 2011700 w/Gauge. It's $12. Would that work? Next one up is $39, don't know if there is a difference, except it looks like there is a gasket.

Want to make sure I get the right one, assuming this is the right part. Any other suggestions where I can get a cheap one?

It appears the ECT switch does have an o-ring, but the best way to make sure you get the correct part is to match them up. First, do a test on the switch to verify it is bad by checking the continuity when it is cold (closed switch) and hot (199°F it should open) and closes again during cooling (181°F). I don't recall if production of the Camry was still split between Japan and US for the Gen Vs, so check the sticker on your driver's door jamb to confirm where it was made and have this info ready when you go to the parts store. If you opt to buy online, try to verify the correct dimensions with a salesperson. Good luck!

It's even cheaper @ the salvage yard, you can also run a test on a thermo switch!

before throwing parts at it, goto autozone/ advance auto parts to have an FREE OBDII scan...

if it is indeed the ECT switch/circuit that's bad, the scanner should read P0115-P0119

hmm, try this: when you turn on the AC or set to defrost, do both fans turn on as well?

Stay away from RockAuto. Their data base is very inaccurate.
