1987 B2200 running very wierd

I have a 1987 B2200 2.2L with 159,000 miles on it... The problem i am experiencing is that while i am driving the truck will sometimes runs very rough and sometimes stall... I can start off in first and the truck will do what it is suppossed to do, but, when i shift into second the truck will barely keep running and sometimes stall... When this happens i will put in the clutch and rev it up and the engine will run very well until i put it back into either first or second gear... After this happens for a bit the truck will come back to life and run normally... I got the truck very cheap and wish to keep it for as long as humanlly possible... I have done a complete tune up except for the fuel filter and the pcv valve... The clutch is in very good shape as well... I seem to think that it can be the EGR valve... But, being a disabled American Veteran, i can not afford the $245.00 for a new EGR Valve... I had and 1988 B2200 several years ago that did the very same thing and i never could figure out what the problem was... So i let it be repoed... Any kind of advice or knowledge will be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advanced...

Re: 1987 B2200 running very wierd

I fixed the problem myself... I went out and bought a fuel filter and a PCV valve... Installed those and then went through and cut about 3/8 to 1/2 an inch off of each and every vacuum lines on both ends... The truck is running very well... Now all i have to do is get a new muffler and the truck will be completely right...

I was going to suggest the fuel filter...honest! I once put some additive in the gas tank and my truck (87 B2000) started acting the way you described. I guesss the additive stirred up the sediment or something in the tank. I had to change the filter 3 times and keep pliers and a spare filter in the truck.
