1981 McLaren "inspired" Mustang

I decided to button this one up before I move on to anything else... I threw my first attempt at this one from the Sherline. Pulleys and the air cleaner are made off the Lathe as well as turned brake rotors. It really helps the engine bay which needed alot of help! Wheels and tires are Aoshima to help it sit better. Paint is McLaren orange and Grey from Scalefinishes followed by PPG clear. Keep in mind... this is a rehash kit Revell threw together from the old '79 turbo cobra kit with an accurate hood and front end... but thats about it! I decided to build it with some enhancements of my own....

Looks great. Your photos are always stunning. The only thing that takes away from the build are the molden in wipers. Finish and detail super like always.

You sure made an excellent looking model out of this kit. I really like the sharp engine bay and the molded in details there are hardly even noticable.

That's really cool! Nicest one I've ever seen built.

That's really good, something a bit different. Shame Revell didn't add the Quattro style wide arches and deep dish BBS X spokes that the real version has. What is the deal with the real McLaren version? Nothing to do with McLAren F1 team presumably?

Tell me about it.. and the kit was so toylike I did not want to bother doing all those modifications... Fender flares, correct wheels, Delete the sunroof.... its just a basic kit when Revell was in their prime of retools.

The only similarities is that the McLaren F1 I believe was a ford cosworth so Ford threw the orange on the stang..... I guess?

Re: 1981 McLaren "inspired" Mustang

Nice work on that dog of a kit. I bought a few with the intent of making a replica of my 1:1 '79 pace car. I stalled even before the 302 conversion. I might pull it out again. Anyone have those decals?
