98 Windstar - popping when turning

I have a 98 windstar 3.8l enginewith 196k miles. When I make a turn to the right even just passing on the highway I get a jerking feel. I initially had the issue with turning to the left and I replaced the passenger side tie rod and that fixed it. About 4 days after that when I turn to the right does the same thing.

I haven't replaced the tie rod yet because I am also having an issue with the brakes. On the passenger side the pads are wearing and a groove is digging in at the bottom of the pad.

I read on here that uneven wearing of brakes can be a sign of a bad rotor. Do you think all these items are related or are they part of a larger issue?

Thanks,

Brian

Re: 98 Windstar - popping when turning

I just got my vehicle from the garage, I kept dealing with issue and finally got fed up with this. I replaced the other tie rod and it works well, but I was still having brake issues. Took it to the garage and they had to replace the bearing. This helped more.

I am now getting jerking noise when parking. When the ABL light comes on the car works fine. The stuttering is coming from the right wheel where all issues have been. I am guessing this would be the sensor. Does this sound about right? If so how hard is it to replace sensor?

Sensor is not too hard to replace.
The Gear like Exciter ring is another matter......
You might verify that it is clean around there.....spray down with brake cleaner.....
Also, verify the gap between the sensor and the teeth of the exciter ring.
You can verify with the other side for gap.
It should not touch....but not be more than 1/4" inch away from the teeth.

Re: 98 Windstar - popping when turning

It was a tie rod end at least that kind of fixed the problem. I am having same issue on other side of van now. I think I might have to take it to a auto shop . The only way to keep the vehicle to drive straight down the road is to have the wheel turned towards the 8 o'clock spot on the steering wheel. I thought I put the rod at the same location as the old one was. I love my Windstar but am I getting a lot of repairs I am either doing wrong or just bad luck. Any help would be appreciated as always.
