1995 buick regal no electrical power

the car wont start. and has no power to anything. every once in awhile the car will have power but mostly not. the battery has 12.2 volts and is connected. it has 12.2 volts at the bolts where the battery is connected to the wires but at the jump point there is .02 volts. i can jump start the car through the jump point but not off of the battery. what is in between the two to make it not work?

Re: 1995 buick regal no electrical power

Dear burny from Ft. Asskickin',

Begin with the basics - Remove and clean the battery cable terminations and inspect the cable ends for corrosion. Check the ground (negative) connection at the engine and body. Inspect the positive connection at the starter and Underhood Electrical Center (UEC).

There is also a main power stud on the UEC which provides a connection point for all power to the body and accessories. There are also fuse links connected to the starter and fuses in the UEC to protect against overloads. Corrosion and/or mechanical damage to the stud, links, or other connections can cause your symptoms. There is a 40A Maxi fuse in the UEC which powers the ignition switch, as well as other fuses for main body power. Check those fuses and their connections while you're there.

BTW - I haven't been through (past) the Fort in about three days. Is it still snowing there?

I had the same problem with the 2000 Regal. The connections at the battery look fine until you start digging around the washers in the plastic boot and discover all the corrosion.
