Re: Anyone tried the homemade sea foam

I know that the three ingredients in Seafoam are Naptha (varnish disolver/decarbonizer), Isopropynol (drying agent), pale oil 20/20 (lubricant), and nothing else. I cant imagine the three things you listed are specifically those ingredients.

I have been using seafoam for many years and regardless of whatever negatives are posted about the stuff, it has never failed to do what it is intended to do for myself. I would much rather use the sure thing that has my confidence in working rather than try to mix up something that has no track record and hope nothing goes wrong!

Why would you even consider such a thing to save $10 or less that goes in a car that (presumably) cost you thousands of dollars?

Naptha(white gas)as I understand it. Isoproynol (alcohol 91%) Pale Oil, Lubricant(2 stoke)

Heck I don't know but it sounds kinda simular to me. Just wondering if any one else has done it. As for the other question. Why would I do this, well If i could make a gallon and a half for the cost of a pint and a half why not.

Like for hunting I can make a gallon of scent killer for the price of a pint that does the same thing.

Re: Anyone tried the homemade sea foam

Dont mean to step on anyones teos, but....

I'm pretty sure (%90+) that white gaoline isnt naptha.

White gasoline is 'camp fuel' it is further refine so that you dont get deposits int the burners on 'coleman' type stoves. The refining process take the reddish color out of it. Possible they may add a octane buffer such as kerosene aswell. Not to my knowledge.

Dont know what the ingrediants of sea foam are, and cant actually remember what its supposed to do, been years since I bought it. But for fuel injector clenaing kerosene has served me well.

Naptha goes in no problem, but watch your heat if you use alot. Same with isopropanol, or ethanol. Cleans things up, but burns real hot. pistons not designed for high performance while using a rich mix for along time, or under stress could burn parts up. QUICK

Every few months I put a about a pint of kero in my fuel to clean up the injector, and other parts. Kero doesnt burn as well (raises the octane) but its a great solvant. I suspect the oil is so the rings dont scrape. 2-cycle oil should work nice for this as thats its exact intended purpose, or you might omit some kero, and use a bit of ATF. easy on that though. Naptha is a bit expensive, as is isopropanol. Compare $2 US pint %70 (you would want %99 though) to Gasoline $2.65 here ATM. Naptha even higher. doesnt make economical sense.

All n all I'd say your ok, just dont get carried away and use too much. low performance engines dont have the right components to run that hot for a long time.
