98 sl2 1.9l dohc timing chain broken
Can anyone tell me, if when the 98 sl2 1.9 dohc timing chain breaks will it bend the valves?? Im dont really want to tear into the engine and replace if all im gonna have to do is replace the thing and head also with valve job and everything. Might be better off getting a new motor if that is the case. I know the chain is snapped.

Re: 98 sl2 1.9l dohc timing chain broken
All Saturn 1.9L engine are interference design. It's highly likely that you have valve damage.

Re: 98 sl2 1.9l dohc timing chain broken
yep valves are bent! oh joy! More info needed though, is there a number of years that the head is the same for this vehicle? for instance will a head from a 1.9l DOHC from a 97 or a 2000 work? or is it for this year only? thanks in adavance for the info

Re: 98 sl2 1.9l dohc timing chain broken
The head is the same from 1996 to early 1999. Earlier heads won't work without some mods. Later heads have different intake and exhaust manifold bolt patterns. To keep it safe get one from a 1996-1998 DOHC engine.
