1995 Windstar ticking noise

OK....1995 Windstar ticking noise appears to be coming from under the intake. The noise is not really there at idle, but appears around 1400 to 1500 RPMS...Cruising at 55 or so, while under slight load, the sound is not really audible from the cabin, but off the gas and coasting it's very noticable. I've searched and read about the 2 piece intakes making noise, but this one does not have (the only year I believe) the 2 piece.

Any ideas? The van has approx 132k miles, and otherwise runs fine.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Re: 1995 Windstar ticking noise

There are a lot of possibilities....
As you mention, the '95 has a different intake setup from the other years.
1996-1998 was a large black single part unit that was quite problem free for the upper intake manifold, with a alluminumn lower intake manifold.
The only problem with the lower is the lower intake manifold gaskets......the ones that are between the lower intake and the heads.
1999 and newer had the cheaper multi-part upper intake manifold that was prone to make noise.....and also have issues with the isolators on the bolts that hold it to the lower intake manifold breaking down from oil.

One very likely cause of clicking is the fuel injectors.....not really and issue.....mine click.....have from when I got the van in 1999 with just under 38K miles on it, through now......with over 218K miles on it.
It is the nature of the fuel injectors to make some small noise......as they are moving a internal valve to open them to spray......and closed again.
The fuel injectors seem to be very reliable on the windstar.

Another possible click is the valve lifters......as they are a push rod style.
If not really noisy.....I would not worry about it.

Then there are sounds of other things.....that might be more problematic......but, if you have good lubrication, and no coolant loss.....are less likely.
Another would be the
