97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
Does anyone know where I can get a trans pan gasket for a 97 GTP? This one uses the 8mm bolts not the 6mm bolts found on the 98-03 grand prixs. I went to autozone and bought their 8mm gasket from FelPro but the gasket bolt holes measure 6mm and the sticker says for "GM 97-03 models".

Re: 97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
Uses a reusable pan gasket and reuse the pan gasket which came off your car over if is is in good shape

Re: 97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
If its a 97, it probably isn't in very good shape to reuse. I am assuming your trans is a 4t60e and not a 4t65e. You should be able to just go to the parts place and tell them you need a pan gasket for a 4t60e from a 97gtp. They should show two in their listing, one for a 4t65e and another for the 4t60e. If not, have them look up the gasket for a 1996.

Re: 97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
The '97 GTP has a 4T65E-HD GM RPO code MN7 autotransaxle. Please get your facts straight people.

Re: 97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
Thanks BNAylor. As soon as I saw the 4t60e I thought I was yelling at the parts guy for the wrong transmission. The gasket isn't doing the job, but every place I go to has the 6mm bolt gasket. This sucks.

Re: 97 GTP Transmission pan gasket
I have to go into my memory banks but I vaguely recall the early '97 GTPs even though delivered with the 4T65E-HD autotransaxle had the 8mm pan bolts versus the 6mm. Note that the 4T60E uses the 8mm bolts but that doesn't mean you have the older 4T60E transaxle. The reason is this. In the final half of the '97 production year GM switched out to the 6mm pan bolts. M6X1.0X17 (total 20, 10mm head). In my '97 GTP mine are the latter since it was one of the last to be produced in 1997 so it was not an issue for me when I replaced my pan gasket about 4 years ago.
Try a local GM dealership and get the original factory rubber formed one with proper hole size if yours is leaking or send me a PM with your regular email address and I'll provide you with a reasonable source.
