Hi,
I just got my Hobby Design 599XX Transkit. ![]() Overall impression isnīt bad, however the parts need some work. Especially where the resin is poured into the mold, some filing and sanding is needed. This can be seen on the photo of the right side of the front, quite some work necessary. ![]() Concerning the tires: forget them. They are not like the vinyl tires you know from other kits, they are soft like chewing gum. I think I must look for some replacement. The BBS wheels have a nice design, but the 599XX wheels are a little bit different. The Y-spokes are too deep (looking towards the brakes). All 4 wheels have the same size, that is also wrong, the rears should be wider than the fronts. ![]() The other resin parts look crisp, the cage needs some more sanding. ![]() The etched parts look good, however, some items are not necessary, but the companies provide the modeller with lots of etched parts, that wonīt be seen later but the modeller seems to like that. ![]() The transkit is completed with etched seat belts and decals. ![]() All in all the transkit looks rather good. I will testfit the parts on a Revell 599, I think about a phantomracer with engine ...

Re: Kit Review: Ferrari 599XX Super Detail-up Set from HobbyDesign in 1/24
Thanks for the review and the pictures. How is the thickness of the etched parts..?? I was looking to buy the Hobby Design set for the McLaren MP4/6, but I read somewhere that Hobby Design photo etch is very thick. How do you find it in this set..??

I also got this kit when they were just released few weeks ago. While quality of my copy is a bit better as far as casting goes (probably one of the few first copies while the mold was still good), I have to agree that the wheels and tires are pretty useless, and overall the kit is not worth the money.

for the rims.
Studio 27 could make a killing selling there BBS white metal rims, they appear to be the most accurate BBS rims made ![]()

Re: Kit Review: Ferrari 599XX Super Detail-up Set from HobbyDesign in 1/24
My HD kit looks very similar to that (tons of flashing, etc.). I see you have a bit more air bubbles than my casting. How is your front end looking? My passenger lower portion looks a bit off and needs to be corrected.
For the $$ it could have been FAR better. As someone stated in the previous thread (Hobby Design 1/24 Ferrari 599XX Super Detail-Up Set) Hobby Design should have just cast a 1-piece body and charged more for it like the R8 GT kit. I've started on it and as far as the body goes you'll only end up using less than 1/4 of the original body (not including the chassis). HD does not include a very nice Staubli fuel filler for some reason despite having all the other accessories. Their fuel filler kit for the FXX looks real similar and I've ordered one up to see the difference. Anyone have any additional pics of the interior? A good majority that I have are of the center portion but I'd like to see more of the doors and even the back. I've got a handful of the door portion and back but more reference is always better. ![]() Good luck on yours! |

I have also started mine and I would NOT RECOMMEND anyone getting the kit unless you have a real love for sanding and puttying! It's definitely not worth the money!

these wheels cannot be used it you want to make the 1:1 599XX. At the original car the Y spokes end at the outer part of the wheel

Micha, one question, I was thinking I could bend the spokes, did you try this before, I will drill the hole in the center, put the screw through, screw it to some plastic on the other end, put in hot water and easily tighten the screw, I am not sure would it work but I will try it for sure, after that you only need to sand outer part of the rim to get those spokes on the edge.

19x11 front, 19x12 rear would be the widths for the 599xx but I'm not sure on the offsets but they don't look as aggressive as the ST27 peugeot wheels. |
