1989 Seat Belts

Has anyone moved the seatbelts from the door into the pillar? With them being in the door they don't seem to offer much resistance in a crash. I'm somewhat taller, so the seat is a little further back, and the strap doesn't even touch my chest. I'm contemplating attempting to fab something up to move the seatbelts to the pillar, but I worry about the structural integrity, as I'm unsure if that pillar was dsigned for those types of loads. Otherwise I may look for some seats out of a caddilac that had the belt built in.
