2006 impala rims on 2000 malibu

Hey Guys, Im in need of some serious help here. I bought a set of 2006 Impala rims with 225/60/16 tires to put on my 2000 Malibu. Everything bolted up fine, drove fine, until I started down the highway. Saw smoke out the back of the car, pulled over to check and the struts had eaten into the inside of the tire.
Does anyone know if there is a way to make these tires and rims work with my vehicle or did I just mess myself up?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Carey

Sure you could find some spacers to space em out. Might be able to put some narrower tires on them, I don't know how much they rub though.

The problem is that the impala wheels offset is more than your car, it is to the insides though.

Hey thanks jyount for taking the time to reply. I figured spacers would be the way to go but what it costs to buy the spacers is more than Im willing to spend to get this set up right. I found out too though that I was told they were 16x6.5 and they were actually 16x8 so they would have worked had it been the 6.5.
I talked to the cat that I bought them from and explained it tore the crap out of two tires and he offered to take them back and refund my money!!! So I got lucky......

WOW, sorry for your luck, but that is a stand up guy. Ya the extra 1.5 inches is where the trouble is, it is all to the back I'm pretty sure.
I feel your pain though, I am searching craigslist for some better looking rims for mine too. I really like the 5 spoke grand prix gt wheels, like the late 90s, but I am pretty sure they will have the same problem you did.
I had a 99 gt and had them all off for cleaning once, seems like they were 8's also.
I am also wanting to add a stock spoiler too, the kind with the third brake light in them.
No ricer wings, just want to add a stock style.
