cruise control shutting off

i have a 1996 suburban and in the last couple of months i have noticed the the cruz dosent hold well going up hills and sometimes just shuts off. any ideas how to fix it.

Factory or add on cruise?
Does speedometer hold good MPH?
Any check abs or engine lights on?

Up hill the CC tries to maintain the chosen speed but if the hill is too steep or you're towing something it will slow down and if the speed drops below a certain % of the chosen speed it will shut off. I think to protect your tranny...
I've experienced this already several times when going uphill with a caravan (1,5 ton) behind it.

I've also noticed that when the "ground" of the trailer plug has a bad connection (corrosion) the CC shuts off when you use the left signal to overtake someone on the highway. Why? don't know but it does. Before I changed the plug, it was a great way to know if my lights on the back worked.

check for vacuum leaks with a vacuum gauge...

factory cruz no check engine light and the speedo show the change of speed as the cruz quits keeping up. i dont have a vac gauge and where would i check the pressure. im no opposed to fixing it right and if i have to spending a little money.

im also not towing anything and it also does it on straight driving.
