I have the same truck and mines a 8.625. This guide should help or you can call GM with your vin # and they can tell you anything about your truck.

Sure but would have to do the front also. I have 4.10, revs 1800 at 60mph. Don't think it would be a huge difference from 3.73 and would be an expensive project.

your vehicle most likely has the locking diff 3.73 gear ratio..inside the glove box the codes are listed which will reveal this..

to put a 4.10 gear set in would reduce gas mileage. you would gain more pulling power though.. good if you drive in mud/plow heavy snow etc...

what codes signify a 3.73 limited slip vs. a locking...or 4.10 limited slip vs. a locking?

Should find them here. G80 is the locking diff.

No RPO codes in your glove box? That's weird.

Re: 2000 Silverado 5.3L 1500 4x4

well it wasnt the differential, i got it serviced this morning and there were not any particles at all. What else could there be to make loud clunking sounds when u shift between reverse/drive...then the other day i was turning and my rear left wheel locked up?

with that info ...did they remove the rear cover ? how do the gear teeth look ? these locking differentials will crack teeth , fall off if when new not properly broken in...

he said he pulled the plug (and that it is magnetic) and there were no shaved metal pieces or any other particles in there, he did not take the cover off

that is how the hacks do it, internally there is a magnet on the cover. also the gear teeth need crack inspection and housing needs cleaning,

this is another reason why these rear dif's fail , hack maintenance.
