alternator problem

I have a 95 GM with a 4.6 L engine. had an intermittent problem with the alternator not charging the battery. brought it to auto zone for testing, passed. check the cables and connections all appear to be in good shape, with little or no resistance, grounds are solid. reinstalled alternator worked for a couple of hours, then it stopped charging. brought it back to auto zone for retesting, failed. Bought a rebuilt alternator, installed it seemed O.K. Couple of hours later battery light comes on, and no charging. what am I missing? Please help!

Re: alternator problem

If I understand what you are saying is the first replacement (autozone) alternator was bad. Then you put another autozone alternator on and the battery light still comes on. you should disconnect the battery, put it on a charger, then after it has time to take a charge, check the battery with a battery checker, check each cell. sometimes maybe the battery has a bad cell and won't take a charge. try that and see what happens.

Re: alternator problem

Look closely at the little wiring connection on the alternator. These spread really easily and lose connection.
