I have a 2005 Pt Turbo. Power steering hose has burst no less than 5 times in the last 2 years, under warranty at the time. Well, again it happened to the same hose near the rack and pinion, No, by the rad, oil just spashed, but now it is off of warranty. Still asking chrysler for a free fix. 6,000 klms Canada over warranty. Anyone else have the same issue. I feel it must be a hose defect, or pressure in the rack that they have misdiagnosed all this time? Racks are expensive to replace. Please note, I must add, a different dodge Dealer found the nut to the rack and pinion was finger tight only, documented, and on file the last time it occurred. I am old fashion , so instead of what we are told, always let the care warm up for at least 15 minutes, never crank the steering to its limit, also happened after the car was warm and a 6 mile drive. This has just about caused two accidents. One major last year when a pedestrian ran in front of my car and I slowed down to miss him. Of course that is when you notice you have a very heavy steering. Secondly this last time making a slow turn almost running into a curb.
Thanks if you reply, Wayne As of 8 am this morning, contacted several different Dealers. Ford has a good will agreement for 20,000 klms if the issue has happened 3 previous times. Every Dealer said 6 times is strike out for something is wrong. Well, I will wait for Chrysler Canada to call back. They were nice , but I will see. And yes I must admit to blowing up in their service Department the 4th time, for I dam near hit someone. Surely I can't be the only one?? How about a response friends. Being an old backyard mechanic for my dad when alive was one just gave me a thought. Didd the Dealers bleed the power steering after repairs, or is that not done anymore? Also, does driving without repairs which I have been told to do until an opening was available damage components? Just in, 11:33 am, Winnipeg Canada time. No responce from Chrysler canada? Possibly we are all screwed. Well Crysler might be shut down in Canada, no answer, told no number at this time. Best start to worry. 1:00 pm our time. Still no responce from two Dealers. Not to worried for when it warms up I will fix it an bleed the system. 11p:m and i did not have to drive today, but no calls. Think I will buy a Ford this year. Well it's Friday and no call from Chrysler canada. Degreased and the same hose burst at the odd twisted overly long bend. Odd bend to it for a hose that should be straight? Also the regular hose connect clam by the rad was very loose. Hope it is not a pressure issue. Seems like it might be for I have not had one responce? Re: PT Cruiser Turbo Power Steering hosees bursting
Well, my friends, IF I have any part, my fault with what to do, I can't see it. Anyway cleaned, spliced the hoses and rack. Well, stopped the leak by the intake hose. Now the pump is leaking. Need help. This is the same hose 6 times. Come on now, Help, no power steering after 5 fixes. Just Wayne a dad and grandfather. I need some input, PLEASE. Oil all over again.
Chrysler Canada just called and will get back. Correction to first post 2 fixes at 33,000 klms. Just found a work order bill dating back to 2007. Possibly I will be lucky. $1,000.00 for pump and hose. Again they seemed nice. Somehow the Canadian number sends you to the USA, but they transferred me after the second call.Monday,Dec/22/08 Last edited by yale329; 12-22-2008 at 02:52 PM. |

I am now wondering if my PT Turbo was in a transit accident prior to me purchasing it. Looking at all the front end work done under warrenty at 48,000 Klms, seems really odd. Oh, found old receipes on that power steering hose. 3 fixes at 33,000. So I could have had more than 8 hose issues. Still waiting for Chrysler to review my claim. Kind of stuck until after New Years for they are all booked up. My original dealer thinks I am being unreasonable and not very nice to them. Well they are right. I bought a Chrysler product, not a Royal Dodge Chrysler. It is all up to the big guys. Wish you all a great Christmas and New Year. Life goes on and it's only a car. Time to think of more pleasant things. I will keep all posted on what ever caused all this to happen. Thanks for the advice and supportive emails.
Dec 29/008. Took my Pt to Stienback In Manitoba. They are great. They Took me to the doctor and back for I caught a really deadly lung infection from lying on the groud fixing one hose for Gauthier refused to deal with me for I was to obnoxious after so many faulty repairs dam near causing a death or sereous personal injuries. Yes I have the bills and pictures. . No shit, 1000 milligrams of amoxocilan 3 times a day. Should have known for I went deaf. Anyway, I was right, Crysler Canada is on Holidays in Cannada. I will pay the cost, but I was right. Both steering hoses need changing. My only concern is I have a 2008 PT to drive till parts are in. Reason being, my first rental in 2006 was als a Pt. The steering was the same as the new, NICE, real power steering. So I have no Idea untill tommorow if all will be okay, but mine has always laboured. I will pay for the Dealership in Stienback manitoba for they are great and half price of Gauthiers.. I have requested forms from camvap.mts.net. If Crysler refuses after possibly 7 bursts, it is only fair to go after the gold Digger, Gauthiers Chev olds, dodge, Jeep. You get my point. To dam big to care. Happy New Year friends and please believe what I tell you. Wayne. Good luck and emails appreciated. Last edited by yale329; 12-29-2008 at 07:23 PM. |

As of today, December 30/08, my Dealer had to replace both power steering hoses, actually they come conected as a set anyway. Problem is that Crysler Canada told the Dealer they will contact me after the New Year, people are on Holidays and it is under review? Im not exspecting a call soon. So the daeler said it was the pressure side of the hose by the pump. My dilma is that both hoses blew for I spliced the return by the rad, and took pictures of the break. I have asked that they explain the cause of so many breaks, but they can't or won't?? So $500.00 down and I don't no why these hoses are bursting. I did take pictures of the hose by the rad that was ruptured but cannot understand why a Dealer would not admit both lines failed at once. I have contacted camvap.mts.net to send me the forms to try and retrive my money and make them aware of the multiple break downs. Well wait a short while and file a formal complaint. If your under warrenty in Cannada, contact the above after 3 bad fixes. Don't wait like I did although they will still go to bat for me. Record the dates of all calls if you are having issues, and keep all repair bills, plus dates of repairs that they patch up without a bill. They are not doing you a favour. Good luck in the new year to all.

Happy New year to All,
Well, I got my car back. The Dealership in Stienback Dodge, Manitoba stipulate that the vehicle has had 7 hose leaks on file, the last bursting both hoses. They were indeed polite and helpful as usual. Possibly, they can't tell what the issue is. Anyway, hoses changed, flushed out complete steering fluid and price was actually, $389.00. My mistake, for I asked for a transmission flush. So to end this post, the Pt has never steered so easy. Still asking Chrysler Canada to share the bill?, if they call or open up again?? That's all, and have a great year. Thanks for the emails, and for Gods sake trust your instincts when repairs are a big issue with a car under warranty. Good luck to all, Wayne Jan.1/2009 HELP, now Im worried, should have shut my mouth. 7:30 a.m, -19 degrees celcius outside, car plugged in, just started and the power steering pump was howling for about 30 seconds. It stopped, but we get -45 out here and it has never howled before, only when the hoses burst. Yipe-ERS. Need a match, and some gas , Hah. No really, at least I know to beware of corners and slow stops. Just beware of consistant no repairs, or the famous, we can'i find the problem. Some Dealers and Chrysler Canada care asqat about you. Good luck in the new year to all. Well, here I am again, just about a year later. Have replaced another control arm, front stabilizer bushings. I to do most work myself, if I can. Here we go again. Power steering hose leaking again, and guess what. Yepper, rack and pinion also leaking. Now have 82,000 KM. Canadian on the car. Finally got through to Linda at Crysler Canada and they said they would look into it. She sounded so nice?? Well, Thanks Linda, NOT. They will only repair the leaking hose AGAIN. So even with all repairs on file going back to 30,000 km, Crysler has basically said scrue you, or at least linda should have said it to my face and not leave it up to the Dealer. So to end, it is time to say good bye to Chrysler. Hope you all have better luck. |
