Question How Many Miles On Your '97-'03 Grand Prix?

I think I saw another thread that did this, but I couldn't find it. I'm curious to know how the '97-'03 models are surviving and about how long they go on average before folks start ditching them. So please "vote" on how many miles your '97-'03 has now (or had when you got rid of it). If you have/had more than one, you can pick multiple options.

Thanks!

97-03 models only, please.
Leases and rental cars don't count.

Re: How Many Miles On Your '97-'03 Grand Prix?

I'm pretty sure I would have totalled a GTP in HS too. My HS beater was a 1990 Lumina with the "iron duke" 2.5L 4-banger! I think the car's timing had skipped a tooth because it still ran, but ran sluggish. 0-60 in 5 minutes flat! I drove it that way for a couple years! I (we've all) done stupid things in HS, I'm pretty sure if I had a car with GTP HP and Torque, I'd have totalled it too!

'00 with 168k. Going well although there is some underbody corrosion from the "northern years".

Tim, you get a new truck? I LOVE that engine. They are so reliable and easy to work on!

139,700 K's and running strong. I purchased it in 2004 with 87,000 miles. Absolutely love this car.

What?! I gotta hear that story!!
actually, i was not being stupid...and i did pay for the car dearly. i took a loan out my Junior year of highschool and worked very very hard for the car, worked at Burger King thoughout highschool, and almost my whole paycheck went to the loan...this is how i became so attatched to GP's. story might be a little long...but I'll tell it haha.

the date was June 5th 2005 just a couple days after i graduated high school. i was on my way to a buddies grad party, which was about 15 miles from my parents house. i grew up in Marquette (Upper Michigan) and as you may or may not know...there are LOTS of trees up there. i was going down a 2 lane highway...and a deer came running out in front of me. I swerved to the right to try and avoid it and hit the shoulder which was gravel, the tail end began to swerve. i tried to correct it, but hit the ditch on the other side of the road, hit a culver and went airborne. rolled the car end over end 3 times. as hard as it is to believe i walked away. had to crawl out of the sunroof.

sad story, but the Insurance obviously totalled it. got $3500 for the car. looked online for a couple of months and found the car i completly fell in love with (my 2000 GTX) drove down to Ohio to pick it up and used the $3500 for a downpayment on the car.

and thats my story

Edit: oops, it was June not July lol

Heck yeah! a couple weeks ago, 350's are the shiznit! 105,000 miles, clean, runs good, shifts good, 1 owner before me. a 45 year old bought it new on my birthday in 1997, so its almost meant to be. Only thing is I'm thinking soon I'll need to rebuild the rear end. Its starting to make noise.

That's a heck of a story! Glad you made it out alive!

My junior year I had my humble little '86 Tempo. My senior year I had my '91 Probe LX. It wasn't much to race with, but it was metallic blue and my buddy and I did a great job putting two white racing stripes down the middle. It looked like a porche until you got up on it. Lotta fun with that car.

My burb had 218K mi on it before I traded it in for my maro and it was running great. My Dad's '94 had 342K before he traded it in for a newer model and that one was also running great. Those engines are bullet-proof. It just amazes me how little horsepower they have for the size they are compared to newer engines. I was looking at a 2010 TSX with the 3.8L = 280 hp, no s/c or turbo. If I recall, my 350 was rated at 210 hp. Granted the torque is a different story, but still.

And I don't recall your GP being that maroon looking...is it just the picture? I thought it was more of a cherry red?.....When you going to get your windows tinted?

Re: How Many Miles On Your '97-'03 Grand Prix?

I know what you mean about the HP, I think stock 350hp on my pickup is 260. The GTP has more than that! And no, thats the color of the GTP, maybe are you thinking of Rich's car? His is red.

Re: How Many Miles On Your '97-'03 Grand Prix?

Well you had the close up pic of the GTP badge, right? Wasn't the paint in that pic red? Or did Rich let you borrow a pic of his door?

Is this your first truck/SUV?

Yeah the close of GTP badge was mine. I dont know what happened there. The lighting must have been different because it is off the same car.

And no, this is my first nice truck, yes, first truck, no, my g/f had a 95 jimmy/blazer, then I bought a 97 k1500 with a blown head gasket, got it home and it was knocking, so I sold it for what I pad to someone who had a 350 to drop in. I just dont have the time nor space to be able to take it apart for weeks on end.
