shaker 500 stereo goes on when I shut the door

Hi,

Have a 2005 GT coupe. Today, when I got home, I turned the car off and opened the door, the stereo went off. When I closed the door the stereo went back on. Seems possessed. Any ideas. I hate electrical issues...

Thanks

I'm not a mechanic or electrician, but it sounds like theres not enough juice getting to the radio. Assuming when you open the door, the lights are coming on? I don't know much about the circuits, etc, but maybe a fuse is going bad?

From what I've been hearing, I think it has to do with the "smart junction box". The box has fuses relays and breakers in it and controls things like the stereo and lights...all the automatic stuff. Maybe there's is a lack of juice in this thing causing these issues...

That's what I was saying. The fuse might be going bad, or if its not the stock radio, it might need a bigger fuse. The fuse box is on the right when you open the hood. There is also one under the driver side dash. Check the fuses and see if any are getting dark or look up the schematic that says which one applies to the radio and interior lights or door stuff. Fuses are pretty cheap, so you could just buy a thing that comes with a variety of fuses and try replacing them or upping it. But be careful not to up the fuse beyond your stereo's max. I'd ask someone knowledgeable before upping it though.

Guys, do not EVER try to address an electrical problem by "upping" a fuse....at least not unless you have a fire extinguisher handy! LOL.

(OK, sorry to sound like a smartass. I don't have any answers to your problem, and although I'm having a little fun with you, my comment is actually dead serious).

I would never do any upping...just asking for trouble.
Still my Shaker 500 has a mind of it's own.If I don't turn it off manually as I leave the car, it will come on, by itself, along with the door lock and window lights and drain the battery. Not fun.

Re: shaker 500 stereo goes on when I shut the door

An update...I disconnected the battery for an hour 3 weeks ago. Have not had an electrical issue since. I think the + terminal was a little loose (the previous owner had an accessory wire, that was frayed and loose, hooked up to the terminal. A simple fix...so far.

Re: shaker 500 stereo goes on when I shut the door

Rusty,
About a week ago I bought a 2006 mustang with the Shaker 500 in it and today it started doing what you are talking about. Has yours done it anymore? Is that all you did to correct it was disconnect the battery for an hour?
