That sounds easy!!
I really just use the "tape" method. Just take a couple pieces of tape, put them on the piece I'm going to cover, then transplant that tape to a sheet of CF. Cut it out, then put it on the part. Add lots of MicroSol and top off with Future when it's all dry and clean.
Here is Ray's FAQ on it:

I'll PM you my address.

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

I'm getting over the decals on this one. Joel was nice enough to send me an extra set.
I did a little work last night, mostly on the front fork assembly. I tried to go with all metalizers and alclads. Brass, burnt metal, titanium, dark anadonic grey, aluminum, and little bit of chrome. The top piece I ended up going with a mix of brass and burnt metal. I still need to put a flat coat on it though.
I couldn't help but get a little mockup...

Beautiful job, sorry to hear about those decals. You inspired me to buy this same kit, so I have a question: did you use Tamiya yellow, or do you have better knowledge, what is the correct color?

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

I used Tamiya yellow like the instructions called for. It looks good to me, and there is no matching or anything, so I'm cool with it.
Little update... Fender is done, wiring done, I think, and decalling is wrapping up. Just some additional details, then it should be done.

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

Back on the bench with this one... After the third set of kit decals, I gave up trying the NA scheme. I decided to go with the test bike livery. Little matte black and graphics, and done, right? Well, as TheSheeneMachine pointed me to a pic that shows the black is clearly CF, I was in for the challenge.
Here is where I'm at right now.

Then I laid on a couple thin coats of Tamiya smoke and I have this.

It's a little more brown that I would have hoped for, but I think I'm on the right track. More in a couple days. I have the tank and wheels stripping now. Should get their NEON orange this weekend.

Ok, so tell me how the kit decals could be so hard for you if you can achieve what's in those last pictures...unbelievable...

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

Nice save to go for the test bike. I built it with the NA livery myself recently and had a lot of problems with the larger decals as well (wrinkling/tearing), although that might have to do with my lack of experience as well (it is my 1st model since childhood). And i agree that it is strange that the full CF decals go on easier

I want to build another one of these, but more detailed. Only thing is, i cant find any decent reference photo's of this bike. Does anyone know of any books, or other sources for good ref pics of this bike?

Anyways, looking forward to see this one finished !!

Just for completeness, here's my finished bike:

Uh oh..I've been mentioned in despatches!! Looks great Erick. Do you plan to darken the CF further as per the ref pics??

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

Hey Paul!! Yes, I put 2 more coats of smoke on and dull coated it. I like "the look". It looks black from about 2 feet away, but if you get close, you can see the CF lines. Exactly what I was shooting for, honestly.
I'll post up some pics tomorrow. I still have to paint the tank and wheels. I'm having horrible luck with that damn tank. Every time I strip it, the gap shows up in that tank dent thingy on top. Argh... Killing me.

Re: Valentino Rossi's 2000 Honda - Nastro Azzurro

Here are the latest (well, almost) pics of the Rossi test bike.

I have the wheels done and installed with tires now...
I still need to polish the tank and add a couple decals. Then it's on to the PE details and pipes.
