S-Type R, burning oil! 100k miles

2-4 quarts inbetween 4k mile oil changes, using Mobil One 10w-40w synthetic oil.

Lets check how much oil is being lost, see Oil Check

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=948190

1) Can you smell oil being burnt ?
2) Do you see any oil leaks?
3) With the car engine idle for 5mins, push the acceleator pedal down, look at your mirrors, is there any smoke?
4) Are both dual (banks) exhaust pipes smoking?
5) Isolate the problem down to a bad bank.
6) Pull all 4 plugs, and do a visual inspection on spark plugs.
7) Check the compresion on all four cylinders.

If the compression is bad, STOP, you are going to need a new Engine soon.
If the compression is good, your are going to need new valve stem seals.

Caution - Check your oil weekly for shorted oil, because shorted oil will cook, or broil your seals & gaskets.

If you can isolate the bad bank, you might beable to get away with doing a ''In The Car valve stem seal replacement'' on just the one bank.

One bank = Dual overhead cams with 16 valves.

Cylinder location, not firing order.

Left bank (bank 1) = cylinders 1-4
Right bank (bank 2) = cylinders 5-8.

Why would someone put 7 quarts of oil in a car?
The oil pressure, and seals would go bad.

LOL- Lets put 5 quarts of water into a gallon jug!
