How to remove plastic above keyfob

I am trying to remove my Multifunction switch and I cannot remove the plastic above the ignition switch because the keyfob is in the way. See image

The KeyFob is the thing on your key chain. You need to remove the lock cylinder.

If you look up under the housing for the lock cylinder. you will see a small hole. Use a small punch, pick, screwdriver and push up while the key is in the run position. If you start with the key in the off position you will feel the button move in when it gets the the run position. Pull the ignition lock cylinder out. Remove the upper trim panel.

Thanks for the help. I couldn't figure out the name of it! I will try this tomorrow.

I have tried to find that hole and I can't find it anywhere. I have also got a second opinion and they can't find the hole also. Any suggestions?

You didn't say what year your Tahoe is. My '98 manual says the steering wheel needs to come off. This means disabling the air bag system and removing the air bag module from the steering wheel (a real danger zone for the inexperienced).

Once the wheel is off the access hole is under the upper shroud towards the top of the lock. Turn the lock to the start position and push down on the retaining pin and release to the run position and pull the lock out.

Once again this is out of a '98 C/K service manual.

the top plastic cover has 2 torx screws under on each side that holds the top cover on. also the steering collum needs to be droped so that the top cover can be removed...this I have not done ,,this was stated in the oem manual..

do not rotate the steering collum when this is done...

I still cannot find this hole were this hole is. Is it somewhere where the lock cylinder is?

You don't say what you've done to "still not find" the release hole.

Also, is your '99 an Old Body Style or a New Body Style.

I have removed the 2 torx screws and the only thing holding the top cover on is the lock cylinder. I have searched for the release hole and do not see the hole on the lock cylinder. I have raised the steering column and still cannot find this release hole. It is the Old Body style 99 Tahoe. I believe they changed the body style in 2000. This is the post I keep checking:

OK, so re-read this one. The reply from Airjer pretty much says the same thing. The hole you're looking for is under the upper shroud.

You more than likely will have to remove the wheel and use a pick with a 90 degree bend to get to it.

comparing your top cover with my 2000 new style I can see your problem..with my new style the top cover removed, this all you need for full access...

I had another gm not long ago that I ran into a simular situation. I was replacing the tumber and I noticed that the new one had an updated rabbit ear configuration that allowed the upper trim panel to be removed without removing the lock cylinder. I just broke the old rabbit ears off of the old tumbler, removed the upper trim panel, and then was able to push in the button to remove the lock cylinder.
