73 Beetle no idle

A friend got a 73 Beetle a while back, ran great. Yesterday it started stalling at stops, if he keeps his foot in it, it will stay running. He brought it by today to have the idle turned up but there is not enough screw to do the job.Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't done anything with VDUBs since 1979 and don't remember a whole lot from back then.

check carb see if the wire on the carb is attached for the stop idle solinoid if it is then pull out solinoid attache wire back on and see if the solinoid works by turning on ignition switch on. if not working there is you problem.

Also, that electric fuel cut off on the carburetor has a habit of working loose and elongating the hole. Before that happens, use locktite on the threads to keep the thing from working loose. Once the thing comes loose, and the hole becomes elongated, you're screwed. Maybe JB weld might be of help later, IF this happens to you.

Re: 73 Beetle no idle

Maybe a good tune-up and replace the fuel filter.
