2000 lesabre limited, check engine light. car vibrates.

When I was driving today, the engine stopped suddenly. After I pullover and started again, the check engine light went up. I checked engine. I can smell heavy fuel and emission. There is also some white vapor from heater core which I am not sure. The temp outside is about 3 C. Then I drove it home, and I felt the car was vibrating and the acceleration is very bad. I can smell fuel and emission all the way.

I checked the trouble code. P0300.

Fuel gauge indicates the average is about 40L/100KM !!!
while the normal average should be about 10L/100KM.

If anyone can give me some advice, I will appreciate it.

Thanks again.

Thanks. I don't know why my OBD reader got these trouble codes. Anyway, I will have a mechanic check my car and update the result.

po300 indicates multible cylinder misfire, could be plus, wires, injectors,i would guess injector flush will fix you up

Is it possible that it is related fuel pumper or fuel sensors?

I did some test of fuel gauge using some resists, several days before the problem happened.

Without knowing the purpose of your testing & subsequent decision to install resistors, we must ask a few questions.
  1. What is the prime fuel pressure?
  2. What is the fuel pressure with engine running?
  3. What is the fuel pressure with vacuum line disconnected at the regulator, with engine running?

Yes, that reminds me, we had P0300 a few years ago,, but I didn't know what it was. To me the car was acting like it was a transmission problem. I posted here and everyone helped me out and determined it was just a bad plug(s). Replaced wires and plugs and all was good.

Thank you HotZ.
My fuel level sensor is out of order. I bought a new one from ebay, and test it by connecting it directly to fuel pumper electrical connector. Unfortunately, the resistor range is not correct. That is what I did before the problem happened.

1. How to check fuel pressure?
2. Where is the vacuum line and the regulator? ahead of engine, near the throttle body, and connected with fuel line?

I think they are the original. 2000 lesabre limited and 140,000 KM now.

Why the average fuel consumption is about 40L/100KM?

WOW. When we drove in Canada and we changed the DIC to metric our 2000 LeSabre was getting 8.5L/100KM. Sure you are not leaking it?
Again, I say check your plugs and wires. An easy way if you have a dark garage, is run the engine in the dark and see if you are getting any spark leakage.

Remove the cap on the schrader valve as shown below, then connect fuel pressure gage. The vacuum line is located on the top of the regulator, look at the inside of vacuum line for raw fuel. Be sure to check plastic fuel lines for leaks. Turn ignition on to pressurize fuel lines and look for wet fuel. Typical ignition misfire will not cause this much of a loss in fuel economy!
