Question How to get into ECM Diagnostics mode

Hi all, I need to read the error codes out of my 2001 Sentra 1.8L GXE. I am sure I have done this before and don't think I could use the one with pressing the accelerator cause I believe this model as a throttle cable. Thanks

Not all cars Stamar. 2003 Chrysler's, turn the key on three times and it gives you your P### right on the trip display. 2003 sentra with a throttle switch have a procedure to count the flashes of the service light.

Re: How to get into ECM Diagnostics mode

if so I stand corrected

I once had a dodge van ( biggest peice of crap ever but that might be another story)

1994, and it did have obd 1, and the chrysler method is usually to turn the key three times

however Im positive that 1996 dodge vans have no such thing

If they brought it back that is peculiar but its true I havent owned a 2000 or newer car

ok so the next thing you are describing 2003 sentras have a flash mode as well?
No idea but i doubt that because I own both a 89 ( obd 1) nissan truck and owned a 91 infiniti g20 and they did not have a flash mode per say

older nissans kept the ecm between the two seats in the front of the cab. To flash the codes you turned the disk with a screwdriver and the ecm itself flash the codes.

obd 1 nissans ( which again is not yours) needed some propierty nissan tool to read the full codes.

I had two 2003 Chrysler's here, an SX 2.0 and PT Cruiser. It is something sweet, not counting flashes, but an actually P number on the screen. I guess they needed it cause I had to check them often. As for the Nissan, my light is off now and no more issues. The only other time this happened was due to a bad seal around the gas cap. Models after mine with the throttle switch have a sequence pumping the accelerator pedal , some ppl with throttle cable tried and flooded their engine. Gotta love the reliability of the Japanese cars.

Re: How to get into ECM Diagnostics mode

definitely japanese is the way to go for me

I ended up getting so many nissans because they are cheaper on the used market than hondas or toyotas

so for used cars thats the way to go. Both my cars right now have near 200k miles and an american or european car that has 200k miles and is bullet proof just isnt out there.

Ive had 4 nissans mostly because of the used car market. They are also usually one of the easiest brands to work with.
