Question Shakes in gear at idle. put in nuetral its fine

My wifes 1997 Stratus shakes while it is in gear stopped. You can put it in nuetral and it is fine. I brought it to the dealer they said it needed new plugs and wires, and the adjusted the idle control. Does anyone know what this could be. Thanks Jimmerz

Re: Shakes in gear at idle. put in nuetral its fine

I just bought a 2002 stratus se, 2.4 dohc that needed a transmission. I put the transmission in that I had from a 2001 stratus. The transmission works fine but the engine shakes in gear too. Neutral it works fine. I changed the motor mounts one was real bad. Today I put on the extra throttle body I had & cleaned the IAP & body out. Changed out the camshaft sensor, plug wires, cleaned out the egr carbon & just changed out the fuel injectors with the spare ones I had. still the same thing. no error codes either. It starts right up hot or cold, as soon as I apply gas it runs fine in all speeds. It's just shaking when going 0-5 mph with brake off & no gas applied. please help !!! Running out of things to check. Could the timming be off a tooth, the previous owner did a valve job. It seems the car would not run as good as it does if the timming was off. email me with suggestions at [email protected]
UPDATE: Problem solved. It was as I suspected the timming was off a tooth. While I had it apart I replaced the water pump. The belt looked very new. No more shaking at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
