Increase the power ?

Wondering some of the things I can do to kick up the horse power on the Vortec motor ? Anything would be helpful at this point as it's a heavy beast and yes...with 255 Hp and 330 ft lbs of torque it gets up and goes but power band is up there and I hate having to mash to make the beast move.

Things I would be interested in doing is Throttle body boring? Cam? Headers? Exhaust packages? Intake packages? Chips? Lighter pullies? Converting to power fan? Anything at this point would be nice...let me know

Check out black bear tuning. They have an excellent reputation and will give you the most bang for the buck. Do an exhaust, intake and cam at the same time and you'll be very pleased. E-fan is a good mod as well.

if this is a 1997 TAHOE it could be many items causing a loss of power..

low fuel pressures/injectors dirty/fuel filter etc...
MAF/THROTTLE BODY cleaning....vacuum lines/leaks..

the exhaust could be restricted ,,,cat converter or mufflers.

I found on my 2000 sil 5.3L synthetic engine oil with synthetic transmission fluid gave me a little extra power and less rolling resistance.

this mod is a good HP saver,,,need to increase alternator size possibly...
these fan motors use a lot of amps...with proper controls of fan operation this has helped ..

I dont have a major loss of power, but I am looking to increase the hp to around 300 or so.

my opinion: to spend several thousand to get 50 more hp out of this engine is a waste of your money...this is an 11/12 year old vehicle ...

the new GM trucks [not that I am recommending anyone BUY one]
put out this 300hp with the 6 speed transmission...this would most likely satisfy your power demands..

Re: Increase the power ?

What I did to help the situation with my '96 Burb (350 Vortec) was add a K&N FIPK and a 50 series Flowmaster muffler. I also made the switch to synthetic fluids in the engine and transmission. I enjoy this setup a lot, muffler has great sound and isn't too loud. Now it's debatable on whether this helped improve my MPG overall but it DID noticeably improve throttle response (feels less like a pig). I noticed a massive difference when putting my foot to the floor. Anyway these would be some good mods to start with, as I was able to do it all for less than $400 (installed parts myself) and then you can decide if you want to get into stuff like cam and tuning. Also check into basic tune up items like plugs, wires, etc. to make sure they have been done. I personally would like to try a computer tuning, have heard good things about them. I guess I'm just a little hesitant, also short on cash.
