2000 chevy 1500 ac problem

I have a 2000 silverado ext. cab with a manual fan speed and it works good on 1,2or3, but 4 and 5 the air gets hot. Any Ideas?????

so what is your problem fan or no a/c at the higher fan speeds ?

if it is the loss of a/c at higher fan speeds I would start by checking the a/c pressures for a proper charge, replace the cabin air box filter,make sure the cabin air filter was used and the air box is clean...

lastly it is possible the temperature control door is somehow not holding at the higher speeds.if the cabin filter was not used this is a good possibility as debris will damage the air box componets

the fan speeds work fine. it is the air temp that gets hot when u turn the fan to 4 or 5. When you say cabin air filter do you mean engine air filter?

inside the air box is a cabin air filter that fillters the air you breath inside the cab..it is mounted in the air box under the dash under the glove box...

some owners remove this 20.oo filter rather than buy new one then the temp door may get damaged or the evap coils get slimed with debris...

I have over the years asked many stupid questions ,,,but I also saved alot of time and money with those questions...

well the two cabin filters were unbelievably dirty. I basically pulled a birds nest out of it. I cleaned it out the best i could and i still have the same problem. Whats next?

the temperature controlling door is directly above the cabin floor transmission hump in the air box...you must open and remove this part and clean out any debris...retest for operation...if it fails then this part is the problem....the problem is when fan on max heat ,,not cool air comes out ? use a vacuum cleaner with a made up smaller flexable hose to suck out what debris you can...

the cabin filters I have washed in a bucket of laundry soap and a little bleach,,let it soak a few hours then rinse with a hose...dry completely before install..place the filters in the air box with the air flow passing thru then as they were originally. I clean them every year,,,after the tree pollen in spring...after a few cleanings they will need replacing..

what do you mean temp control door?? Do you mean the hump in the floorboard where the trans is at?

your vehicle uses a motor that steps the movement of the door inthe air box...as this door moves it will give heat or no heat,,,,,hot water is constantly flowing into the heater core in the air box....this is how the temp is controlled...


as I stated before " in the air box " directly above the transmission hump in the vehicle cabin floor is where this is mounted and is accessable..

on my vehicle this means removal of the centre console...etc...
