2007, 2008 & 2009 gas mileage.

Took delivery on a new 09 Corolla base model with automatic tranny and we love it. Barely 500 mi on it and get 30 mpg and haven't been on a road trip yet but expect 40 or better. I see some forums they say they get 45 and better, let's keep our fingers crossed. Just saw on FOXNEWS where the Dept of Energy said gas prices will stay at $4.00 a gal or better through 2009. I reckon we should be glad we don't drive a guzzler that gets 10mpg in town. Please let us know what mileage you get with your late model Corolla.

This will interest you. The 09 doesn't have a power steering pump so no belt that takes energy to turn the pump. HUH? Yup, Toyota designed a box that sits atop the steering column and senses when the wheel is hard to turn and kicks in and does a power assist to help turn the steering wheel, then when you're on the road and steering is easy is cuts back. I thought that's pretty slick and the salesman did a good demonstration for us. We considered the Honda Civic or FIT but both are in demand and the Honda dealer was way to high and we got the Corolla for about two grand less. Trade in or resale value on the Corolla is fantastic but not planning to trade it for a long, long time. Day we bought ours they sold four Corollas so I guess they're in demand to. Said delivery time on a Prius or Yaris is at least two months away.

I have a 2007 corolla S with auto and 12,000 mi on it and it gives a constant 30 mpg local and 38 on a trip, no problems yet except the dealer is slow when I take it in for service.

Yeah, that mileage will work. Mines getting 32, 29, 30, 26, like that 90% town driving. Just turned 1K mi so not broken in at all yet. I had cruise control put on at Toyota dealer and I heard on radio that using cruise will help mileage a lot, so we'll find out. Service dept is a real winner, couldn't ask for better and everyone says what good service they get. It took the tech all of an hour to put the cruise in and good to go. Not some jive-time aftermarket cruise, real Toyota just like with one that comes with cruise from the factory so has same warranty as the car. $348.00 not cheap but no more than if I got it installed at a car audio shop. Mines sort'a gold and I had the window tinted and it really looks good. I saw a new VW Jetta beside my car and the VW looks a lot like the Corolla.

I believe your dealer lies. The Prius hybrid gets 50 but no way the Corolla will.

They all have the 1.8L engine and here is what the Toyota Corolla website says: http://www.toyota.com/corolla/ 35 mpg hwy 27 city. OK, you're a conservative, conscientious, slow driver and maybe you get 40 MPG, but I doubt it. Let's look at an independent test site: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/24320.shtml
35 hwy 26 city. Before I would believe 50 mpg I'd have to fill it and drive it and do the calculations myself.

Ford has a car ready to go on the market in Europe that gets 50 MPG but they won't market it in the US because they would lose to much money. It's stunts like why I have no pity for the American car mfgrs and no wonder people are buying foreign gas sipping vehicles. For years Ford and GM centered on designing HUGE GAS HOGS and now they have to play catch up building economical cars.

Re: 2007, 2008 & 2009 gas mileage.

I own a 08 Corolla and avg 31 MPG City/ HWY and yes, 40MPG on the HWY. I use "name brand" gasoline and synthetic oil. If I drive over 75+ MPH on the highway I avg. about 37 + 38 MPG on the hwy.
