2002 firebird 3.8l dies instead of accelerating.
Go to merge on the freeway and instead of usual acceleration car dies. Towed home. Clean positive battery cable (in bad need of) and install new battery. Go to work in the am and same happens again on entering the freeway. Any suggestions.

Re: 2002 firebird 3.8l dies instead of accelerating.
If you 3.8 is lilke the 5.7 in those cars the thorttle body is controlled by a electic stepper motor, not a cable like in older cars. CHeck your thorttle boy and make sure it is not cable controlled. If it is not then it is "fly-by-wire" GM went to this around 2001 in F-bodies. You need to take the MAF off so you can see the throttle blade and have a buddy step on the gas with the ignition on and make sure the blade opens smoothly with operation of the gas pedal; if it is jerky or has dead spots that is the problem; if it works you can move onto other diagnoisis.
