Car Storage
So my fiance is going to be going back to Japan for about a year or so and her car is going into "storage." It's just basically gonna sit there until she gets back.
What are some things she should do to make sure her car will be fine when she gets back next year? Should we just follow the winterizing FAQ written by Yogs? Or should we do something different? Also, should we have someone start the car up every so often to make sure everything's running still? The car will be parked at her friend's place so I'm sure someone can just start it up every so often if that would be better than completely taking it apart to just sit there. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Car Storage
The car should be fine as long as it is winterized and her friend drives the car occasionally (at least once a week). It is no different than going on vacation for a week and coming back and driving your car again.

Re: Car Storage
doesnt winterizing consist of removing the plugs/wires, wrapping the block up, and unhooking the battery (among other things)? that'd be kinda a pain in the ass to undo and redo that once a week just to drive it.

Re: Car Storage
it all comes down to this. Will the car be driven at all, or it it basically gonna sit for a year? If it's driven ocasionally it will be fine, but if it's gonna sit for a year strait, i would start it every week or 2 for a few minutes, and i would also either remove the wheels and have it on stands, or just roll the car some each time you start it so it's less likely to get a flat spots on the tires and also for the sake of the wheel bearings. Other than that, i'd just disconnect the battery terminals to make sure it's not dead when you do ur periodic starts. If it hasn't been started for more than a month, i'd put a bit of oil in before starting it, just becasue the top end is gotta be pretty bare. I know it only helps the head that the cap is on, but better than nothing.
EDIT: wait, what kind of car is this anyways? if it's not a 3/s (or something else nice), disregaurd all. Just let the fuckin thing sit

Re: Car Storage
Blink (yeah I know you changed your SN but I originally knew you as Blink - lol), she drives an '05 Nissan Sentra. Not a 3S but it's still a car that gets her around so we'd like to keep it in a relatively good condition for her when she gets back. Oh, and it won't be driven at all, just sitting there in storage. I guess we'll try and get someone to start it up every so often if she can trust them with her keys.
![]() Jason, where you been bro? Damn it's been forever... Anyways, guess you didn't hear but we're engaged now! I'm excited but Stealthee seems to think I lost a screw or two. Haha j/k (or am I? Hmm...)
