Valentino "The Doctor" Rossi YZR M1 2007

hi guys,
we are having a group build contest on SPC forum, I thought I'll post some pics over here as well. I hope you don't mind!!
my entry is Rossi's 2007 bike. well, sort of....
I'm using the 2005 Tamiya kit with Top Studio super detail up set and Studio27 decals and some other Top Studio and Hobby Design parts.
I know there is a transkit for the 2007 model but I think there is not BIG different between the 2005 and 2007 bike's body panel, well at least not $150 worth of....





started with the racing stands


the frame and swingarm were filled with Tamiya putty.

Is the frame and swingarm always filled? I am not really into these bikes but have them in my to do pile, so that would be quite interesting to know

well, you don't have to fill the frame and swingarm it will hardly be visible anyway. but in this case it's gonna look like more as a resin kit.

frame and swingarm was painted with TS-6 matt black over gray primer!


little update!
I managed to make the chain on the weekend using Hobby Design chain set. it's very nice and easy to work with, took me 3 hours but I think it was worth it!

So you will use the 05 cowls huh, interesting as you put such effort in all the other detailing parts. But as you say, 150 $ is quite steep.

hi Joel, yes, I'll be using the '05 cowls on this bike.
well, I know it won't be perfect match but I think after the decals it will be hard to notice the differents, unless you are trying to find them... . that's what I'm hoping for, anyway.
and after spending $250 I thought I wouldn't add an other $150 for 4 resin parts.... this build is a warm up for Top Studio's YZR M1 2008, first I wanted to learn more about these detail up set and parts from Top Studio.
to be honest it wasn't gonna be this expensive build but I added more and more to it on the planning and then this contest came up so I thought that many details would be just enough.

and here's what I've done on the weekend
exhaust still without muffler springs




and the radiator with shrink tube hoses, some metal foil and a little weathering

Very nice build! I'm finishing my '06 Rc211V now using the Top Studio chain. With the HD chain, how do you keep it together? CA glue? Hammering (like the TS chain)? With the price of the HD kit being almost 1/2 of the TS, I might try that out next time! The chain looks nice.

Really nice! What did you use for the hose clamps? Also, how did you connect the muffler spring hooks? I should be getting that photoetch set for my project soon, I'll need to attach them to some aluminium tube since I'm making the exhaust myself.

Cheers Daniel, the HD chain was quite easy to work with, NO hammering needed. I used Super Glue to fix the parts together.
Next time I'm gonna try Top Studio's chain set, I love the idea of an actually working chain.

I have some PE hose clamps but I don't like those so I just used a very narrow piece of metal foil. (you can call that cheating.... )
for the spring hooks simply used Super Glue.
I think it will stick to aluminium as well, should be fine!

Nothing is "cheating" in modeling, just different ways to approach the finalgoal. I think the metal foil works wonders.
