Exhaust System
Okay I want to try and build a nice exhaust system on my car I just need to know some good parts.
I already have a pacesetter & downpipe 2.25. I want to CHANGE my catalytic converter for a Magnaflow High Flow Spun Cat..heres the website for that. http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/54955/10002/-1 Will they be able to weld this into place with no problem? And is there an O2 sensor on this? Then I wanted to know If I need a resanator? Does it do anything performance wise? Then I was going to run a straight pipe 2.25 after that. Would this work? Thanks for any info you can give. |

Re: Exhaust System
that will work but it will sound like garbage, you need at least a muffler and preferably a resonator to get a nice low tone with out all the raspy 4 banger sound. with resonators try and go as big as you can fit under the car, i believe we can fit 24" possibly 26" but 24" should be good, put it right after the cat. and please for the love of god dont use it as a muffler and stick it out the back of the car. it is a resonator NOT a muffler. as for the cat, it does not have an O2 sensor but any muffler shop can fab up a spot for one. mufflers are all pretty much the same, just go with whatever style you want and try to get strait thru design because it is way less restrictive but still makes your car street legal.

Re: Exhaust System
x2 on that sounding like complete ass.... you may even get pulled over for a "muffler violation" if its too loud. do cavaliers have a resonator stock? i dont remember.... regardless, i would forget the resonator and get just a muffler

Re: Exhaust System
Alright,thanks for your advice :-)
Will a Resonator with a 3" inlet/outlet work on a 2.25 pipe? Which is the best? ![]() Last edited by lilsweets3138; 09-08-2009 at 05:16 PM. |

Re: Exhaust System
yeah it will, you will just need to make it fit. any exhaust shop shouldnt have a problem with this.
in regards to your o2 sensor, it doesnt go in the cat, i goes in the exhaust pipe after the cat.

Re: Exhaust System
the z24's have a small 10" resonator on them but the 2.2l cavy's dont have any, and your right the o2 sensor does not go IN the cat but it can be welded on the cat at the end of the tubing so it will fit in the stock location without any or little modification. and your best bet is to go with all the same diameter tubing so that it is uniform through out and you are not going from 2.25 to 3 back to 2.25 because it will not flow smoothly and will hurt the sound and performance(not that its going to be doing much for performance on a 2.2l)

Re: Exhaust System
Okay, I got another question and I didn't want to make a whole new thread for it.
If my downpipe is 2.25 can I get a CAT that's 2.25 aswell? Because I was told that the pipe would either have to be larger OR smaller so that they can slide into one another and then be welded.Or do I have to buy flanges? Sorry for the questions,I just want to make sure I get all the right things. One other thing,If someone buys a u-bolt clamp and they ask for a 2.25..does that mean the pipe is most likely 2.25 or 3"? |

i know what you're talking about, and they're right, however if they have ANY kind of welding skills they should be able to weld it right together without sliding one piece over another. and if they cant, they're an exhaust shop, they should have a tool that expands the diameter of a pipe just a little so they can slide one piece over another. you definetely shouldnt need flanges.... those are for bolting pipes together, yours will most likely, and should be, welded together here is the tool im talking about..... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...112&zmap=37354

Re: Exhaust System
I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 35140B. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
