Remove the trim covers in the back of the seat by the floorboard. Next remove the two seat retaining bolts (one on each side). Tilt the seat forward and you will have access to the seat drive system. You can manually move the seat from this position. It is also a good time to check/replace the forward/reverse motor.
Not sure is a 97 has side air bags or a seat belt pre-tensioner but you may want to disconnect the battery before you do this work so if you do have them, they don't accidentally go off.
