93 Deville Won't Start

I was driving my 93 Deville yesterday when it randomly died. I tried to start the car again, but nothing happened. The starter relay clicked but nothing else. After popping the hood and looking for obvious problems (loose battery cable, etc.) I tried to start the car again after sitting for 3 minutes and it cranked right up. I drove it another 5 miles, made a right turn, and the digital fuel gauge went from 4 gallons to Empty and the car immediately died. I have head that these cars have issues with the factory fuel pickup when it gets down to 4 gallons, so I put 6 more gallons in it and attempted to start it again. Nothing happend. When I turn the ignition switch, all that happens is that the starter relay clicks. The dash, interior lights, and radio all work fine, it's just that the starter doesn't do anything. I replaced the starter and had the battery tested at Autozone (it passed and is only 4 months old). One interesting thing is that if I leave the key in the On position for about 1-2 minutes, something under the hood, maybe near the driver side fender, randomly begins to hum/rumble for about 10 seconds. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Pretty tough to diagnose this online, sounds like bad connections causing the no crank issue, but that should not cause a stall. Check for 12v at the starter solenoid if none work back from the solenoid to the nuetral switch then back to the ign switch.

This may sound obvious, but have you checked the battery cables? Those two positive cables like to collect corrosion like crazy. Give them a real good cleaning and see if that helps. I've had mine not start due to excessive corrosion build up.

Re: 93 Deville Won't Start

That sound under the hood if you leave the key on has something to do with the throttle I think...On my 91 everytime you turn the car off you hear it adjusting and somebody told me what it was once and I forgot haha. I know its normal and fine though. As for your issue the only advice i can give is I had a battery that had a loose terminal...It would appear to be tightened down and firm but the car would cut out and not start till all I had to do was tap it or turn it a fraction of an inch. Some intermitent connection issue even though everything looked fine. A new battery fixed the problem, even though the old battery was technically fine charge wise, the connection sucked. This may not be the solution to your problem, but it might be.
